Telco problems on exchange 305-908 affecting only Dade 56K lines. The 305-531 exchange (analog V.34 modems) is working fine, as are the Broward (954-745), Boca (561-962) and Palm Beach (561-515) 56K lines. We notified the phone company, which has received complaints from other customers unable to access some Miami exchanges, and is working on isolating and fixing the problem. No cause or time estimate was given. Again, there is nothing wrong with our service, the trouble is at the central office of the phone company and is affecting other ISPs as well.
Upgraded firmware in the Ascend MAX 4048's to Release 6.1.7 (08/13/98).
A powerful tornado knocked out powerlines, uprooted trees, and we even saw a
fire light up the horizon. FPL equipment got struck by lightning. The main line
went down in a shower of sparks and burned some cars. Here come firetrucks, police, newscrews, jugglers, monkies, etc.
We ran on emergency generator power for about 14 hours. FPL gave us a snow
job every couple of hours about when the power was going to come up. The main
breaker overloaded and jumped about 3 times, causing reboots. Some creative wiring was hastily attempted. Around 5pm, the telephone switch batteries went flat, and all lines on fiberoptics went down. We had finally run out of options, and were forced to shut down everything at 5pm.
In the mean time, some daredevils robbed an armored car in front of a bank, and the helicopters started buzzing overhead... again come police, newscrews, jugglers, monkies, etc... duh.
Power and all services were restored at 7:30pm. We are sorry for the interruptions, but all hell broke loose today, and we did our best to keep it up and running for you.

Electrical power was restored after a blackout that lasted 14 hours. We ran on emergency generator power and kept the service going all this time! Crew filthy and exhausted...
Electrical power failure due to blown transformer on the pole. FPL has no idea when they can send a crew. We are running on emergency generator power.
Radius CHAP/PAP authentication, K56Flex and ISDN access was restored.
We are working to restore K56Flex and ISDN access. In the mean time, you may access the system via the analog 305-531-2929 modem pool. Thank you for your understanding.
A violent storm caused a city-wide electrical power failure that lasted overnight (12 hours). We lost a UPS and 3 disks. The system ran on emergency generator power for 2 hours, between 9pm and 11pm, but we could not stabilize everything to a sane state, and had to shut down the entire network. Losses included the root partition (boot disk) for sunny, the main server. Essential services were restored by 12:30pm on 02/03/98, including NFS for shared file systems, DNS for virtual domains, web servers, and tty ports for the analog V.34 dial-in lines in the 305 area code. User files in home directories were not affected. Email works and delayed mail started spooling in.
