PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND COMPLETELY
TAPE RECORDERS, COMPUTERS, TV'S, CAMERAS, RADIOS (INCLUDING
WALKMAN), KNIVES, ETC. ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE COURTHOUSE.
JUROR QUALIFICATION QUESTIONNAIRE:
It is mandatory that you complete and return the Juror Qualification Form immediately. If you
need assistance, please call collect, telephone number 296-4947 in Key West during business
hours. Collect calls will only be accepted if calls are within the Southern District of Florida. All
requests for excusals or postponements must be in writing and received at least ten days before
the reporting date. Please do not phone in requests for excusals. IF YOU SUBMIT A
WRITTEN REQUEST TO BE EXCUSED NOW, YOU WILL RECEIVE
NOTIFICATION BY POST CARD ONE WEEK BEFORE YOUR REPORTING DATE.

HOURS PRIOR TO REPORTING.
TERM OF SERVICE & HOURS:
The U. S. District Court uses a two week standby call in system for jurors. PLEASE CALL
THE TELEPHONE NUMBER ON YOUR SUMMONS AFTER 5:30 P.M. ON THE
WEEKEND BEFORE YOUR REPORTING DAY AND EVERY NIGHT THEREAFTER
FOR TWO WEEKS. Although jury service is for approximately two weeks, you probably will
not be asked to report every day. Do not report unless the initial of your last name is called. On
each day you are asked to report, unless otherwise instructed by the Jury Clerk or Trial Judge,
you will report at the time scheduled on the telephone recording system. It may be necessary to
extend your service beyond two weeks. A normal service day begins at 8:00 A.M. & concludes
at 5:00 P.M. You will be dismissed each day as soon as all jury needs for that day have been
met.
TRANSPORTATION, PARKING AND REIMBURSEMENT:
You will receive $152.00 (May 1 - December 14) or $202.00 (December 15 - April 30) subsistence for overnight stay when traveling over 50 miles one way. Limited free parking is provided next to the courthouse, or you may park at another place of your choosing. You will be reimbursed for reasonable parking and mileage expenses, in addition to the subsistence. The pay for jury service is $40.00 per day, unless you are a Federal employee and $0.31 per mile.
Service as a juror is not only a civic duty but is one of the key ways in which a citizen may
directly participate in the operation of government and help to ensure fairness in the
administration of justice. We welcome you as a juror and hope that you will find the experience
